Sukanta Majumdar slams Mamata’s claim on migrant workers in Bengal, calls it misleading and false

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Dr. Sukanta Majumdar has criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent statement about migrant workers in the state. Speaking at a public meeting in Murshidabad, Banerjee claimed that 1.5 crore workers from other states are employed in West Bengal. This statement, Majumdar contends, is inaccurate and misleading.

Majumdar, in response, stated that according to official data, only 16.56 lakh people have migrated to West Bengal from other states in search of employment. He also pointed out that more than 40 lakh Bengalis have been forced to migrate to other states for work. Majumdar’s statement emphasized the discrepancy between Banerjee's claim and the actual figures available from the state's migration data.

Alongside his statement, Majumdar shared a video showcasing the experiences of migrant workers who had moved to West Bengal from other regions such as Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. This video aimed to provide a more nuanced perspective on the migration issue. The disagreement between Majumdar and Banerjee highlights the ongoing political tension regarding employment and migration in West Bengal.
